Winston Churchill’s grandson has accused the Nationwide Portrait Gallery of an “ideologically motivated rant” after it claimed the wartime chief intentionally starved Indians.

Lord Soames, who sat within the Home of Commons from 1983 to 2019, signed a letter alongside 50 different friends describing a taxpayer-funded attraction as a “barefaced lie”.


The Nationwide Portrait Gallery has been urged to clarify itself after Helen Cammock’s 40-minute movie urged Churchill “wilfully” inflicted mass hunger in the course of the Bengal famine of 1943.
